Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's former Finance CEC Pauline Kahiga's woes continued to deepen after the High Court threatened to issue a warrant of arrest against her.

According to a report by the Daily Nation, the former CEC who was sacked on Friday, March 6, was summoned to appear before the High Court on Monday, March 9, after failing to honour a past ruling.

On Monday, March 2, Kahiga had been ordered to pay Ksh10.2 million to one Kepha Maobe - a representative of 365 residents of Kimathi Estate who had sued the defunct Nairobi City Council in 1997.

According to the publication, the warrant will be issued against her if she fails to honour the summons served by Andrew Ombwayo & Co. Advocates dated on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.

“The High Court has summoned you in your official capacity to appear for sentencing on March 9, 2020, for reasons outlined above.

"That you are duty-bound to pay the judgment debt above of Ksh10,247,610 exclusive of interest being costs of the suit, before the date of sentencing, which shall mitigate your contempt,” read the summon in part.

“It is hereby ordered that summons to issue to one Pauline Nyambura Kahiga Waititu to attend court on March 9, 2020, for sentencing. You, the said Pauline Nyambura Kahiga Waititu, are required to attend court on March 9, 2020, at 9 a.m. without fail,” continued the summons signed by High Court deputy registrar.

Kahiga lost her job after Sonko degazetted her on Friday replacing her with former Trade Executive Allan Igambi.

“It is notified for the general information of the public and pursuant to the Executive Order No 11 dated December 5, 2019, I, Mike Mbuvi Sonko has appointed Allan Igambi as the substantive Finance and Economic Planning CEC and degazetted the appointment of Pauline Kahiga with effect from January 30, 2020,” read the Gazetted notice in part.

Up until her sacking, Nairobi County was at a standstill after it emerged that the Finance docket was occupied by two CECs.

On Thursday, January 30, embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko reshuffled his cabinet, in a move that saw others switch dockets, and others, like Kahiga, fired.

Igambi, however, was unable to assume the duties of the ministry following legal battles that pitted Kahiga against Sonko.

Government printer CEO Mwenda Njoka rejected to gazette the changes, arguing that the appointment by Sonko was not done in accordance with the law.

In February, Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto greenlighted Sonko's decision to reshuffle cabinet which allowed the governor to deregister Kahiga.
