The Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot disowned a section of leaders from the party who appeared before the Building Bridges Initiative steering committee to present their views on the BBI report.

In a statement released by the party on Tuesday, March 10, the Thirdway Alliance insisted that the officials appearing before the committee had not been sent by the party but were there in their own capacities.

The statement was directed towards the Joint secretaries of the Building Bridges Committee who were receiving the views of various stakeholders in the country.

"Our party as directed by the National Executive Council (NEC) has not mandated anyone to present any views before the Building Bridges Initiative.

"As a matter of fact, the individuals purporting to represent the position of the party were in fact expelled by a majority decisions of NEC and they have since filed the following petitions reeking reinstatement," the statement reads.

The party listed a number of cases that the officials were embroiled in as proof that they were not representing the views of the party.

It further clarified that no one from the party had been granted the permission to present any views before the steering committee and thus those appearing in the party were making moot submissions.

"Any views presented to yourselves by any or all of the individuals should not be construed to be those of the Thirdway Alliance Kenya," the statement concluded.

The embattled Thirdway Alliance Secretary General Fredrick Okango, however, went to the BBI invite and presented views that he stated were on behalf of the party.

The Thirdways Alliance has been at an impasse ever since Aukot introduced a reboot of the dismissed Punguza Mzigo bill.

Some of the party officials dismissed the notion and instead urged Aukot to consider merging the new Punguza Mzigo with some of the recommendations in the Building Bridges Initiative report.

This impasse led to the expulsion of Okango after a meeting held by the party's NEC on January 27, 2020 approved his dismissal.
