Agriculture CS Peter Munya on Tuesday, March 10, stated that locusts were just visiting some parts of the country and then they would leave.
While giving an update on the locust invasion from Wilson Airport, the CS stated that out of the 26 counties that had been affected by the locust invasion, in five, the locusts were just visiting.
"There are 26 counties that have been affected in one way or another. Some of them are just locusts passing through there and moving.
"The swarms that I told you about split into smaller ones. So in the food basket, if you look at counties like Kajiado, Machakos, Makueni, Nakuru and Bungoma, it's just a small amount dropping there and then moving out, so they are just visiting," the CS assured.
At the same time, Munya mentioned some of the counties that had been adversely affected by the locust menace.
"The epicentre of the counties that are heavily affected are; Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Turkana and Garissa," he informed.
Additionally, Munya stated that the government had set aside Ksh300 million in the locust control, an exercise that is expected to go on until June 2020.
The CS is expected to flag off three additional planes from South Africa that are expected to battle the locusts.
The planes would cater for aerial spraying of locusts.
Earlier in March, the CS stated that the country would receive additional help in fighting against the swarm of locusts.
