Renson Ingonga, the Director of Public Prosecutions, has been elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) during an annual general meeting in Singapore on Tuesday.
As a Supernumerary Member, he will serve as an additional, non-regular member of the Executive Committee and will bring in extra expertise and regional representation.
"The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson M. Ingonga, CBS, OGW, has been unanimously elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP)," a statement by the ODPP read in part.
"The election took place on 9th September 2025 during the IAP's 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Singapore."
The appointment comes just two months after he was appointed the President of the Africa Association of Prosecutors (APA) during the Association's 17th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Marrakesh, Morocco, in July 2024.
In his remarks, Ingonga highlighted the crucial role prosecutors play in the administration of justice, and thus, a benchmark of practices across countries would allow for professional growth.
"I am humbled by this election and the responsibility that comes with it," Ingonga said in his acceptance speech.
"Prosecutors play a critical role in the fair administration of justice, and this opportunity allows us to exchange experiences, embrace best practices, and discharge our mandate with integrity, professionalism, and firmness."
While announcing the election, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) termed it a historic election, a milestone for not just Kenya but the African continent as a whole.
The office noted that this further reaffirmed Africa's growing influence in shaping international prosecutorial discourse as well as Kenya's commitment to active participation in global justice initiatives.
"This will provide a unique platform to enhance cooperation, address emerging challenges, and strengthen prosecutorial standards across jurisdictions," ODPP emphasised.
In July, Kenya hosted the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa, further emphasising the office's commitment to international collaboration.
