A bodaboda rider has won the hearts of many Kenyans after taking the initiative to educate his neighbours about proper coronavirus preventive practices.

A video shared widely online on Thursday, March 19, shows Polycarp Wafula riding his motorcycle transformed into a mobile public address system where he shares messages of hope in the wake of Covid-19 as well as reminds Bungoma Town residents of safety measures.

He makes trips around the town and makes stopovers at designated areas where he reminds the residents to regularly clean their hands and maintain hygiene.

He has attached two placards at the front of the motorcycle that details facts about the disease as well as how it spreads.

“Coronavirus inapatikana sana kwa mikono wakati mtu anapiga chafya, ndio maana serikali imepiga marufuku mikutano (Coronavirus is spread through contact with respiratory droplets from an infected person, that is why the government has banned large gatherings.),

“Please make sure if you have a shop, at the entrance have a jerry can of water and soap so that your customers can wash their hands,” Stated Wafula.

Part of his message also included a piece of advice to parents to avoid buying their children shareable gifts that could aid the spread of the virus.

His advice is in line with caution issued by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe who advised Kenyans to keep a social distance of one meter as well as sanitise their hands as much as possible.

As of Wednesday, March 18, seven Kenyans had tested positive with several others on quarantine over suspicions of contracting the virus owing to their proximity with those who have already tested positive.

Several Kenyans were impressed by the man's zeal urging for the state to recognise his efforts.

"Next time the CS for Health makes a press statement, Polycarp Wafula should be next to him," shared Zainabu Said.

"We laud Polycarp Wafula of Bungoma county for taking it upon himself to raise awareness on Covid-19. This is true patriotism - love for fellow Kenyans and love for country," praised Brand Kenya.

Brand Kenya is a parastatal that was constituted by President Uhuru Kenyatta and tasked with the responsibility of identifying and refining the key attributes of Kenya, that contribute positively to the image and reputation of the nation.
