A passenger allegedly collapsed and died after stopping over at Mtito Andei.

According to a report by K24 TV, the man aged 30 years was aboard a Mombasa-bound bus from Nairobi. He reportedly started coughing before he collapsed and died.

Quoting police officers, the media outlet disclosed that the incident was reported at the Mtito Andei Police Station in Kibwezi Sub-County, Makueni, on the wee hours of Monday morning, 2.40 a.m.

“About 2km North of the station from Nairobi towards Mombasa for a stopover, one passenger aged 30 years started coughing, collapsed and passed on,” read a section of the police report.

Reports indicated that the man might have died from a heart attack.

Some of the symptoms of a heart attack include shortness of breath, fatigue, sudden dizziness and nausea among others.

Health officials from Kibwezi arrived at the scene and removed the body from the area before fumigating the bus.

Heart attack symptoms seem to border those of the coronavirus which has claimed more than 13,000 lives with more than 300,000 infected.

The symptoms include trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, shortness of breath, high fever and a dry cough.

In Kenya, 15 people have tested positive for the disease with fears that many people could catch the virus.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), however, Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) were the number one cause of death globally.

An estimated 17.7 million people die from CVDs each year, representing 31 per cent of all global deaths. Of these deaths, an estimated 7.4 million are due to coronary heart disease while 6.7 million are due to stroke. Over 75 per cent of CVD deaths take place in low and middle-income countries, mostly affecting the poorest people.
