A number of Kenyan celebrities have been advised to self-quarantine after they attended a movie awards gala in Lagos, Nigeria, potentially coming into contact with a Covid-19 infected individual.

NTV presenter Amina Abdi Rabar, who hosted the event, and popular actor Pascal Tokodi were among Kenyans present at the glitzy ceremony held on Saturday, March 14.

"I hereby notify you that all participants at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) held on 14th March at Eko Hotel may have come in contact with one of the confirmed cases in Lagos and are most likely to have been exposed to Covid-19 infection," reads a statement issued by the Lagos Ministry of Health on Tuesday, March 24.

All attendees were advised to self-quarantine and contact official Coronavirus hotlines if they developed any symptoms.

A source close to Tokodi who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke confirmed that the Selina actor had already begun self-quarantine after learning of the news.

Efforts to get in touch with Amina to confirm whether she was also in self-quarantine proved futile as the presenter remained unavailable.

Doubts linger as to whether she will be available to host her Friday night show, The Trend,  on NTV as scheduled on Friday, March 27.

Amina charmed many as she was the first East African to host the Lagos awards gala, sharing duties with Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa.

Tokodi also impressively walked away with an award for 'Best Supporting Actor'  for his role in the movie Disconnect.

"We did it! Blessings fam!Thank you! Thank you so much!!" the actor excitedly posted on Instagram after the show.

Popular Kenyan actress and producer, Sarah Hassan, did not attend the ceremony but one of her movies, Plan B, took home the gong for 'Best Movie: East Africa'.

"OMG we wooonnn. Best Movie East Africa at the AMVCA7 Lowla Dee you're talented and creative, thank you for creating a masterpiece.

"Thank you to all the cast and crew for making this happen & Africa Magic, DSTV Kenya and every single one of you for all your support," she tweeted after learning of the win.

The 60-minute movie which was shot in Nairobi is a typical love story starring Sarah Hassan as Lisa Waweru, Kate Kamau Karanja as Joyce and Nigerian actor Daniel Ettim as Dele.

As of March 24, Nigeria had reported 42 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with Kenya hitherto recording 25.

Experts, however, predict a dramatic increase in the numbers in coming weeks particularly with increased screening and testing.
