Man Collapses and Dies At Market in Makueni

A middle-aged man collapsed and died at a market in Makueni during the Sunday, March 29, evening rush-hour.

According to a report by Kenya News Agency (KNA), Boniface Wambua, 42, collapsed at around 6:20 p.m. at Mukuyuni market, Kaiti Sub-county in Makueni.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mukuyuni Sub-county hospital where he had been taken for treatment.

Confirming the incident, County Police Commander Joseph Ole Naipeyan disclosed that the cause of his death was not yet established.

He further noted that investigations into the incident had been launched.

The body of the deceased was moved to the County Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

As the incident happened, Police officers in the same county arrested two lorry drivers along the Kitui-Kibwezi road for defying the 7 p.m. - 5 a.m. curfew.

The commander confirmed to the agency that the two, Duncan Koome and Phineas Muriithi, were nabbed at 9 p.m. while transporting Miraa and Muguka.

“They were travelling from Meru and the consignment was headed to Kilifi, through Mombasa,” he stated.

They were taken to Kibwezi police station and were expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, March 30, 2020.
