Kenyans quarantined at the Kenya School of Government were left incensed by the Ksh. 2080 accommodation fee imposed on them and declined to pay the amount set

KSG was listed among the 57 locations where Kenyans who had arrived from abroad can be quarantined as the country continues to fight the spread of the Coronavirus.

About 500 individuals who were quarantined at the Kenya School of Government had been asked to pay $40 (Sh4,200) per day before the amount was lowered to $20 (Sh2,100) after they raised concerns.

KSG was a cheaper alternative after a number of hotels in the City had hiked their rates to about Ksh 12,000 following the high demand.

According to the quarantined Kenyans, no agreement had been set between them and the government to pay the $20 accommodation fee.

From a video shared online, a Kenyan was seen sharing his grievances, "There is one thing you are forgetting, all of us have come from different nations and different countries.

"You are ignoring that those nations we have come from we don't know what is going on with the Coronavirus over there, those nations are taking care of their citizens and they are not asking the institutions where they are being quarantined to pay.

"We are not that stupid to come back here, in a government facility and we are from nations where they are being taken care of by the government."

One of those quarantined in the institution did not want their situation to be compared to what is happening in neighbouring countries, "You are comparing yourself with Uganda and Somalia? You are not even ashamed of yourself.

"Is the Kenya School of Government a private or government institution, go and tell the government we have refused to pay, we won't pay, won't board!"

Kenyans have complained about the quarantine conditions especially those taken to Lenana School with several claiming that safety measures to curb Covid-19 spread were not adhered to properly.

Mayombe Odubah a Kenyan student was today released after she had been detained since Friday, March 27 over an Sh45,000 bill she had accumulated during her Covid-19 isolation stay at Pride Inn.
