A politician in Nyakach, Kisumu County rejected a donation that had been made by South West Nyakach MCA Gad Olima which was to be used in his mother's burial.

The Nairobian reported that Leofram Omonge from South West Nyakach alleged that the coffin was of low quality and would not accept it.

Omonge, who decided to purchase another coffin for his mother, claimed that the MCA did not contact him over his donation, something that got him concerned.

Further, he stated that his family was shocked after the coffin was dropped at his home by people whom the family was not familiar with. The individuals did not utter a word to them, prompting them to report the matter to the police.

"The MCA who sent the coffin has my number and he ought to have informed me as the firstborn of the family," Omonge stated.

South West Nyakach chief Caleb Owako confirmed the incident and stated that the coffin had been donated by the county government.

"The MCA made a request to the county government to have the coffin donated to the family. However, we should have informed Omonge in advance," the chief noted.

On his part, Olima stated that he had requested the coffin from the county government's special programme department.

"He should have said earlier that he did not need help from us as I had announced earlier," Olima stated.

Omonge has since apologised to the Kisumu County Special Department for his actions.

"I thank everyone who stood with us and supported us either financially or emotionally. May everyone find a place in his or her heart to forgive me for acting out of anger," he expressed.
