A 74-year-old man was on the night of Thursday, April 2 killed by his son, 35, at a village in Bomet county.

Daily Nation reported that the old man, a watchman at a local secondary school in Kitulwa, Bomet, was struck with a metal object after he had got into a quarrel with the son.

Kapkimolwo Location, the local area of the victim, chief Paul Lang'at revealed that the fight between the two broke out at around 11:00 p.m in the night, however, reasons as to why they differed are still unclear.

"The deceased collapsed after being hit with a metal bar in the neck," Lang'at stated.

The chief informed that the 74-year old suffered internal injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Longisa County Referal Hospital.

The 34-year-old son after the incident presented himself to the chief. He was arrested and surrendered to Longisa Police station, where he will be held awaiting trial.

Interestingly, family members and area residents revealed that the deceased had also murdered his own father in the 1970s.

"It is a matter that the family needs to sit down, discuss and find a lasting solution so as to avoid a recurrence," Lang'at stated.

The deceased's body has since been moved to Longisa County Referal Hospital morgue. Lang'at stated that investigations will be launched into the incident to ascertain what sparked the incident.

Despite the country being on recess and Chief Justice David Maraga issuing directives on arrests during this period of the Covid-19 virus outbreak, the suspect is sure to be held by the police and a case opened.

The CJ had directed that only petty offences would have suspects released on bail or cash bonds to await trial at a later date. Maraga stated that serious offences would call for hearings amid the pandemic with given instructions from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Inspector General and the CJ.
