The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is reported to have summoned the father of the the late Sergeant John Kenei to its Kiambu Road headquarters.
According to a report by The Standard on Wednesday, April 22, Mzee John Chesang is expected to visit the DCI headquarters over alleged pressure from some quarters forcing him to state that his son committed suicide.
The reports further indicate that three senior police officers attached to Deputy President William Ruto's office will be required to make statements in connection with the alleged murder of the police officer attached to the DP's office.
The DCI had ruled out suicide as the cause of death and insisted that Kenei was murdered and the scene was staged to make it look like suicide.
Detectives stated that the data on Kenei's phone had been tampered with leaving little to rely on in tracing some of his last contacts.
The DCI also pointed out that the alleged suicide note found at the scene did not match Kenei's handwriting, amongst a slew of other evidence that detectives insist disproved the theory of suicide.
The decision by the DCI to summon Mzee Chesang angered many, among them Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi who took to social media to air his discomfort with the summon.
He accused DCI George Kinoti of summoning Kenei's father with ulterior motives.
"Why are you taking so long to conclude the investigations into the death of Sergeant Kenei? This is one matter that the DCI does not agree with as they insist that he was killed.
"You invited Kenei's father into your office. Why are you bribing his father? What is the hidden agenda behind all these?
"Don't think we are fools, we know all your plans including your plans to take Kenei's parents to some high ranking office this week," Sudi alleged
He urged the sleuths to conduct independent investigations and tell Kenyans the truth.
