Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, demonstrated how Sergent Kipyegon Kenei, who was attached to Deputy President William Ruto's office could not have committed suicide as earlier speculated.

Kinoti, on Thursday, March 5, invited journalists to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, where he argued that he had almost been convinced that Kenei committed suicide, but upon investigation, he came up with evidence proving he was murdered.

"The exit of the bullet made us come up with a hypothesis. To be fair, absolutely fair, that if it was suicide, we would have wished that he rests in peace and then ask ourselves why he had killed himself," he added.

According to Kinoti, the scene at Kenei's house in Imara Daima, Nairobi, was doctored.

"So if he could have shot himself, no matter how we demonstrated the scene to satisfy the theory and hypothesis of suicide, with him bending - as you are going to see in our report - then automatically he would have fallen on his back.

"But what we found out was a stage-managed incident which is the opposite. If he was standing, definitely the blood matter and brain matter would have erupted into the ceiling, then the cartridge would have fallen on the right," Kinoti argued.

DCI sleuths further played CCTV footage disproving Ruto's claim that Echesa and Polish military weapon suppliers had spent 23 minutes at his Harambee Annex office.

The footage showed that Echesa spent over one hour at Ruto's office.

On Thursday, February 20, DCI boss George Kinoti rushed to Kenei's house from Mombasa, after he got wind that detectives were messing up the crime scene. Kinoti ordered Kenei's body, which was on it's way to the mortuary, to be returned to the house for fresh investigations. The DCI boss decided to lead the probe.

"No comment for now. Let's wait for investigations," Kinoti informed the media at the crime scene.

While speaking in Mombasa, on Thursday morning, February 20, Kinoti affirmed that his agency was building a watertight case against former Sports CS Rashid Echesa in the Ksh40 billion gun fraud case that roped in DP Ruto.

"We are expecting more arrests and more revelations. There is more than the public will know about this. We are also building a strong case because he (Echesa) was arrested while in possession of actual evidence," Kinoti stated as quoted the Daily Nation on Friday, February 21.
