8 More Recover as Kenya's Covid-19 Cases Rise to 355

Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman, on Sunday, April 26, announced that 12 more individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 in the preceding 24 hours.

Speaking at Afya House, the CAS stated that the total number of those who had contracted the disease stood at 355. with slightly over 500 samples being tested.

All the cases, he added, were Kenyans with Nairobi being the hardest hit county with eight cases.

Eight more patients were discharged after testing negative bringing the total of recoveries to 106.

Broken down, the Nairobi cases were in Kibra (2), Karen (1), Dandora (1), Eastleigh (1), Kasarani (1), South B (1) and Umoja (1).

He announced that guidelines of the reopening of eateries and restaurants were already determined and that they would be unveiled in due course.

"Following the directives of His Excellency the President, the National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus has today met and will be releasing guidelines for a partial reopening of eateries and restaurants," noted the CAS.

The committee also directed that the testing of all truck drivers was to commence immediately at all border crossing points and that the county governments were to increase the training of their healthcare workers. 

The Ministry of Health was also directed to collaborate with counties to identify Covid-19 isolation facilities in the counties. 

He further noted that the state had mapped out the high-risk areas by studying which areas community transmissions were happening.

"Clearly, the counties that are under restricted movements are key areas that we need to do a little more testing," he stated.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, April 25, ordered that the national curfew that was initially declared on March 25, 2020, would be extended.

In a press briefing by the president from State House, he stated that the dusk-to-dawn curfew would be extended for another 21 days.

He added that the cessation of movement in and out of Nairobi Metropolitan area, Mombasa and Kilifi would be extended for another 21 days.
