Police have launched a manhunt for three people who are said to have gone missing on Friday, April 24, while en route to Nairobi from Thika.
Among the three is an activist from Kiamaiko Justice Centre, Michael Njau, who lives in Nairobi's Mathare area and had visited his relatives in Thika on Thursday, April 23, before he embarked on a journey back to Nairobi on Friday, April 24.
Njau was in the company of his cousin Adnan Mohammed and his childhood friend Samuel Mungai while on their way back.
"When they left home, they told me that they would drop Njau in Huruma and would head back home," Amina Mohammed, Adnan's mother stated.
Njau's wife, Ann Njeri, on the other hand, disclosed that she last spoke to him on Thursday evening, April 23.
According to Defenders Coalition, the vehicle the three were travelling in had been hired and when it wasn't returned to the owner as agreed, he tracked it and found it.
On Tracking the car, the owner found the car abandoned at Githurai roundabout stage. He reported the matter to Githurai Kimbo Police Station on April 26, 2020.
The motor vehicle is currently at Githurai Kimbo Police Station and will be taken to Thika Police Station for inspection.
"The vehicle was in check and when we opened the car, the only thing I noticed was that Mungai had left his jacket in it. We went and reported the matter at Githurai Kimbo Police Station," Mungai's wife Monicah Wangui stated.
Thika DCIO Mohammed Bakari informed that detectives were pursuing two suspects who were with the three in the vehicle before they alighted at Witeithie along Thika Superhighway.
"We have already sought help from the headquarters and specifically the cybercrime unit so that they can retrieve the CCTV footage and their phone records," he stated.
