Charles Njonjo is a man known for his role in the country's political atmosphere where he served as the Attorney General and a close confidante of the late President Mzee Moi.
For many, however, what stands out about him is his sense of style and love for exquisite things, a which is reflected in his impressive portfolio in the real estate and hospitality industry, one of the most notable being the Sankara Hotel, in Westlands, Nairobi.
According to reports by Business Daily (2014) and The Standard (2016), Njonjo is the chairman and a major shareholder at the Sankara Hotel Group, alongside billionaire businessman Baloobhai Patel.
The 156-room Sankara hotel, located along the Waiyaki Way in Westlands, is one of the highly acclaimed five-star hotels in Kenya, tailored for what reviewers call the 'business-traveller' market.
According to a review by the award-winning review website Expert Africa, the five-star hotel was granted a 90 per cent excellence rating by travellers who have enjoyed services at the establishment.
"The rooms are the most comfortable, well designed and well lit that we’ve come across in central Nairobi, discreetly decorated with African artworks, with sumptuous beds and high-thread-count sheets.
"It also has very good bathrooms with walk-in showers and bathtubs, flat-screen satellite TVs with all the channels you need, and well-planned work desks with a choice of free wired internet or reasonably fast free WiFi," Review Africa praised.
Sankara boasts of many amenities, among them a world-class gym, a rooftop swimming pool with a glass bottom giving the swimmer a clear view of what is happening on the ground, and also the Angsana Spa, the first of its kind in East Africa.
The review lets it slip that the hotel has rooms from the second floor to the sixth floor, with most guests on the sixth floor paying a higher price for their rooms and are in turn allowed access to the seventh-floor club lounge for the chosen few.
According to the hotel's website, it boasts of one of the best options when it comes to conferencing and even hosting of personal events as evidenced by a number of high profile summits hosted there.
"Our three Woodvale Ballrooms, together with catering up to 220 guests, are furnished to the highest standards with wenge wood, Italian marble and plush carpeting.
"Accented by original pieces of modern African artwork, the spaces have a contemporary yet warm ambience. Natural light from the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and an outdoor terrace perfect for breakouts, create a relaxed and open atmosphere," Sankara boasts.
