Tenges Ward MCA Sylas Tochim, on Monday, May 11, vowed to kickstart a motion to oust Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Addressing the media from his ward, the disgruntled MCA said that he would start by collecting the necessary signatures.

"I will initiate and mobilise the process of recalling the Baringo Senator by getting the minimum requirement of signatures needed to recall him.

"This is because he has failed the people of Baringo. I woud like to tell the senator to try and address the issues of the people of Baringo," the bitter MCA explained.

He decried the lack of action on the part of the senator to come to the aid of the people who had been overwhelmed by the floods.

Tochim described Senator Moi's apparent absence from the contingent of government officials who came to offer aid following the devastating landslides in the region as a glaring mistake.

At least 4,000 people were displaced after Saturday’s mudslide at the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties on April 18.

"We have had countless disasters in the county. 7 officers lost their lives in Chemoi yet the Senator was nowhere to be seen, he didn't even send a delegation to help.

"We also lost 2 people in Eldama Ravine when a mine caved in on them, but once again the senator was nowhere to be seen," he claimed.

He went on to accuse Senator Moi of trying to hoodwink his county residents by dishing out sanitisers at his Kabarak home, yet the sanitisers, he claimed, had been issued by the national government.

The MCA expressed his distaste at what he termed as the senator's tendency to focus on his own interests and the general elections in 2022.

"This issue of politicking and looking for coalitions by meeting the likes of Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi makes no sense. The rest are working for their people but Gideon is not," he remarked.

He went on to claim that 80% of the people of Rift Valley were fully behind Deputy President (DP) William Ruto.

"Let me tell you, Senator Gideon, in Baringo County, 80% or 90% are DP Ruto supporters and if that's not clear enough for you, just ask the people," he elaborated.

The Tenges Ward MCA also made it clear that Baringo residents were shocked to see their senator giving out relief food in Ukambani, yet they were also in need.

"Our people are also dying of hunger yet we see him giving donations in Ukambani. Who elected him to the senate, was it not us?" he posed.

According to Part IV of the Elections Act 2011, the electorate in a county or constituency has a right to recall their representatives on grounds of violation of Chapter Six of the Constitution, mismanagement of public resources and if convicted under the Election Act.
