Kenyan Professor Peter Mbati has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in Pretoria, South Africa.
The good news was shared by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who congratulated the professor on his new role.
"This awesome achievement is a source of inspiration and pride for not only your peers, friends and family but also for your compatriots in Kenya and the people of Kakamega in particular, where you were born and bred.
"As I warmly congratulate you on this incredible accomplishment, it is our prayer that the achievement takes you to higher levels of success in leadership and mentorship," reads a letter by the governor.
In addition, he conveyed his best wishes to the professor, who is set to assume his new responsibilities in a few days time.
Going by Mbati's LinkedIn information, he prides himself as being skilled in reporting analysis, strategic planning, resource mobilization, executive management, and medical research.
He also has a PhD in biological and biomedical sciences, which he got from Kenyatta University.
Previously, the professor was the VC and principal at the University of Venda in South Africa, which he left in 2018.
The University of Venda in South Africa's Human and Social Sciences Dean Prof Mokgale Makgopa praised the professor as a visionary leader who has a special talent, effort, humility, compassion and dedication.
His appointment came days after human rights activist Maina Kiai appointed to a newly constructed global board tasked with monitoring content on Facebook and Instagram.
He was selected as part of an elite team of 20 individuals from around the world.
