A sigh of relief for Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa after the High Court ordered the government to return his guns.

Daily Nation was the first to report that the government was also ordered to return his car, items that were impounded in connection with a case in which he is accused of participating in a Ksh39 billion fake arms deal.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji noted that his office was preparing to appeal the ruling immediately.

"The ruling has not affected our case against Echesa but we are appealing immediately. We still want to detain them. The only thing is that we are trying to ensure that he does not commit another offense using those (guns).

"The other option will have to for whoever gives him the gun to consider whether they have to give him the license or not," stated Haji

Echesa sued the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for revoking his firearms licence, confiscating two pistols and his Range Rover vehicle in March.

The police had seized the items during a raid at his house in Karen, Nairobi, on February 13 and 15, 2020.

During the February raid, the sleuths recovered several guns and documents which were expected to help the agency build a case against the former CS.

They recovered a rifle, Ceska and Berreta pistols owned by the politician and 104 rounds of ammunition. The search was extended to the homes of three other suspects who had been arrested alongside the politician.

On Monday, March 2, the detectives returned to Echesa's Karen home where they sought to uncover more evidence as investigations continue into the Ksh39 billion fake arms tender scandal that saw Echesa arrested on February 13, just meters away from Deputy President William Ruto's Harambee House Annex office.

The detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit had sought to access the home for almost one hour but were unable to do so and resorted to jumping over the fence.

Five of his cars were taken away from his home during the raid.
