Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Friday, June 5, condemned parents who were not taking good care of their children while at home.

This was after the CS revealed that three of the girls he had taken from the slums for High school education, were already pregnant.

"It is very heartbreaking that after I personally went to the slums to fish out some of the girls and having taken to schools, looking for scholarships, three of these form 1 girls are already pregnant and shame on the parents," Magoha stated.

The Education CS went on to urge parents to get the number of children that they could afford to take care of and manage.

"On a sad note, this ministry has noted that some parents, guardians and caregivers are not providing care for their children while at home...

"Shame on the parents, a very big shame on you. We should only have those children that we are able to take care of, if you have no time for your child, then, you have no business creating a child," Magoha continued.

Additionally, the CS asked parents of Internet abusers who were luring children into all manner of cyberspace offences.

Early this year, CS Magoha caused a stir in various slums when visited children from vulnerable families living in slums to monitor the selection of beneficiaries of a multi-billion-shilling bursary fund.

Prof Magoha jumped across open sewer drains and navigated dark, smelly alleyways as he popped into one house after another to confirm whether the scholarship programme applicants were deserving cases.

The CS ensured that some of the students had gotten scholarships for their high school education while for others, he begged the principals to enrol them in schools even without paying any cent.

“We shall go after the parents and they will tell us why the children are not in school. If we find the children, we will take them to school ourselves and we will do it forcibly,” the CS had stated.

He added that the president would make the final decision on when schools will re-open.

"So if you want to ask me questions wait until Monday or Tuesday when I will now answer you with the full throttle," Magoha told the press.
