Singing Hawkers Warm Their Way to Governor Joho's Heart [VIDEO]

A young group of singing hawkers in Old Town, Mombasa whose clip was shared online for the better part of the week met with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who joined them in their routine on June 5.

In a clip of their meeting, the young men led the governor who was seen holding a pineapple as they proceeded with their catchy sales song.

The county head is seen filming the singing grocery vendors on his phone while joining in the chorus.

The young men identified as Aboud Shally, Mohammed Arif, Ussama Abdallah, Abdulfatah Ali and Shee Mohammed, adopted the appealing marketing strategy to give their business an edge in their locked-down section of the town.

Governor Joho during the meeting pledged residents to support the young men, lauding them for their entrepreneurial spirit.

"The County Government will train them on entrepreneurial skills. We will support them in coming up with a viable business by providing funding. We want to make sure that they can sustain themselves," he stated.

He further promised to cater two of the boys' tuition funding as they were still in high school.

"Through the Hassan Joho Foundation we will also cater for the school fees of two boys who are still in school until they finish College," he pledged.

The clip of their marketing gimmick went viral showcasing their well coordinated operations as well as their beautiful melodies.

"Even though they sing well, they are not a band. They just sing together to spice up their greengrocer business," a local told Kenyans.co.ke.

Their unique way of selling prompted a visit from the Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of ICT, Innovation & Youth Affairs Nadia Ahmed Abdalla who marvelled at their innovative and passionate way of selling vegetables.
