Majority Leader Aden Duale's 'nine lives' appear to have come in play as a Jubilee parliamentary meeting that was to take place on Tuesday, June 9, to discuss his ouster from the post was called off at the last minute.
Speaking outside the Parliamentary buildings on Monday, June 8, Majority leader Emmanuel Wangwe announced that upon consultations with the party leadership, the matter was shelved in pursuant of more urgent business.
"We take orders from the party leadership. The matter shall be handled at a later stage. Therefore, I take this earliest moment to say that the meeting has been rescheduled from today to date to be slated very soon, as it will be directed by the leadership of the party,“ he stated.
Credible sources who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta intervened calling for the cancellation of the meeting as he asked for the list of MPs who'd signed the petition.
The Head of State instead directed the MPs to focus on other parliamentary business including the upcoming budget process. The final decision now lies in the president's hands as he will give his decision on the fate of the Majority leader.
At the same time, Jubilee MPs didn't receive an invite for the Parliamentary meeting as it is customary to the party's rules to inform the MPs of an upcoming meeting.
The impeachment process was initiated by Kieni MP Kanini Kega who claimed that 126 lawmakers had already appended their signatures to the petition for Duale's ouster.
Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya, who was touted as the one to replace Duale argued that the Garissa Township Member of Parliament had lost the confidence of the majority of the Jubilee's Lawmakers since he had failed to unite his political troops for a common cause.
On the other hand, following the retention of Duale as the Majority leader, North Eastern leaders led by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji pledged their loyalty to Uhuru promising to be in the frontlines of supporting his agenda.
"We are grateful that the president has decided to retain Duale to continue to be the majority leader. We want to assure you(Uhuru) that we have always been loyal and we will continue to be loyal. We will obey and fulfil any instruction given by the party," Haji stated.
As the purge against DP Ruto allies continues, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on June 8, relinquished his Parliamentary Committee position after a notice of removal.
Kandara MP Alice Wahome, on her part, wrote to Majority Whip Wangwe seeking an explanation for her ousting from the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.
"In order for me to respond substantively kindly furnish me with the grounds upon which you intend to cause my discharge from the said committee," Wahome stated.
