Sudan Central Bank Deputy Governor Dies

The first deputy governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Maror Chier Rehan, died in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 10.

Reports indicate that Chier at around 11 pm after a short illness.

According to the director of communication in the Bank of South Sudan, Majok Nicodemus, Chier passed on in Nairobi hours after being airlifted for treatment.

The cause of his death is yet to be known.

Chier was appointed the first Deputy Governor of the Central Bank in March 25, 2020.

He had served as the manager of the Bank of South Sudan’s regional branch in Wau, as well as the head of Charter One Bank in Juba before his appointment.

His career as a banker spanned back in the 80's when he worked for the central bank.

A few weeks ago, outgoing Burundi's First Lady, Denise Bucumi Nkurunzinza, was airlifted to Kenya for urgent medical attention aboard an Amref evacuation aircraft.

Denise continues to receive treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi. She is also rumored to have been in the company of three aides.

It remains a mystery how officials from other countries have gained entry into the country as President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Saturday, May 16, had shut borders and restricted entry of Coronavirus patients, only allowing those who tested negative.
