A company affiliated to Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has bagged a lucrative tender from the Kisumu County Government.
According to a report by Daily Nation, the company, Spectre International, which is owned by the family of the former prime minister won the tender to supply water in some parts of Kisumu County.
The publication further noted that the tendering process is in its final stages and once complete, it will see the firm help Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company to supply water to underserved areas.
A letter from Water CEC Salmon Orimba to Kiwasco Managing Director Thomas Odongo indicated that the company was poised to supply the commodity in Kisumu West.
"It was determined there is a deficit in Kisumu west and therefore the proposal for bulk water supply by Spectre International Limited will go a long way in augmenting the same.
"This letter is, therefore, to ask your company to guide and assist Spectre in the process of implementing the proposal as per options," read the letter.
The CEC further noted that the County Government of Kisumu headed by Governor Anyang' Nyong'o, Kiwasco and South Water Works Development Agency took part in the tendering process.
Orimba highlighted that the county had experienced challenges in meeting water demands in the areas of Kisumu Main Prison, the airport area and Kogony.
"Spectre will help us since they already have structures to extract water from Lake Victoria and also have a treatment plant," the CEC told the paper.
Once the deal is finalised, Spectre will take over from Gulf Water Company which was initially tasked with supplying the water.
Spectre International is a separate entity from East African Spectre Petroleum Company also owned by the former premier.
