On Wednesday evening, June 10, the Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi put the JKLive show host Jeff Koinange on the spot for choosing to interview him with Political Commentator Herman Manyora.

Havi argued that Manyora was a communication Lecturer and was not well versed with matters of the judiciary.

The trio was discussing tussle between Chief Justice David Maraga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Look Jeff, every repressive regime is facilitated by different categories of people. You will find judges who facilitate that regime, you will lawyers and scholars. If you look at the 80s and the 90s, there are scholars among them even professors of law, who supported the manner in which the government was being run.

"It does, therefore, surprise me that we have someone in front of us who claims to be a professor. In fact, I am told he is a professor of communication which indicate that he has no knowledge whatsoever of the serious matters that we are dealing with," Havi stated.

"In fact Jeff, I must point out that my member state profound umbrage with the fact that you decided to relegate the president on the law society of Kenya to discuss such a serious matter with someone who cannot understand mundane issues as to the qualifications of someone being the Attorney General," he continued.

Manyora, who was calling for the Chief Justice to resign, advised Havi to focus on the discussion instead of engaging on a supremacy battle.

"Intelligent people do not talk how Havi is talking. You just make your point and people are watching TV, they will see what you're saying. You don't keep referring to people as a heavyweight.

"There is something wrong with lawyers, they think there is something special about the law. Law is just common sense and English, nothing else," Manyora stated.

Manyora faulted lawyers for the backlog that was being witnessed in courts. He argued that most of them had cases in different parts of the country.

He added that lawyers always sought to adjourn, which was slowing the quest for justice.

Havi, on the other hand, argued that the courts needed to be empowered. He stated that the judiciary needed finances and resources to run smoothly.

"I have so many of my members who do not have work yet they are competent," Havi stated.

The discussion followed a public statement by Maraga, who accused the president of ignoring the rule of law on Monday, June 8.

He complained that he had sought an appointment with the president a couple of times but his request had not been met.
