Popular Luo Musician Abenny Jachiga Dies After Short Illness

The Luo community is mourning the death of popular artist Bernard Onyango Obonyo, popularly known as Abenny Jachiga, which occurred on Thursday morning, June 11.

Jachiga is said to have succumbed after a short illness at St Jairus Private Hospital. 

His brother, Austin Omondi, told the media that the musician had been ailing since Friday, June 5, and was taken to a local hospital before he was transferred to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Jachiga's condition did not improve and was, hence, transferred to the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

"At Aga Khan, the doctors explained that his kidneys were affected. The family requested to transfer him to an affordable hospital. 

"He was finally admitted at St Jairus Private Hospital near the Kisumu International Airport, where he died at around 2am on Thursday," Omondi stated.

His producer, Deno Nguasi of Nguasi Records, stated that they were preparing to release a new album which would have 12 tracks.

Family and friends took to social media to mourn the deceased.

Jachiga is famed for the songs Mano Kasinde, Penzi ni Kama Mayai, Simba Manyo Wendo among others.

His body has been moved to the Portflorence Community Hospital mortuary in Otonglo area.
