UPDATE 1:50: Four MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been de-whipped from various committees in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers include; Laikipia Woman Rep Catherine Waruguru, Aldai MP Cornelly Serem and Bomet MP Joyce Korir.
Waruguru was discharged from the Committee on Members Services and Facilities, Serem from the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee while Korir lost her seat on the Labour and Social Welfare Committee.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Wednesday, June 17, hit out at National Assembly Majority Chief Whip Emmanuel Wangwe for allegedly dismissing him from the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC).
In a strongly-worded statement, Kuria stated that he could not be dismissed from a position he had never held.
"He notified me of intention to discharge me from the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) of which I was not a member and then proceeds to discharge me from the Transport Committee.
"Ignorance is bliss. But surely Speaker Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi [Speaker of the National Assembly], why do you allow desecration of Parliament to this level? " Kuria wondered.
Kuria's outburst came a week after he indicated that he had resigned from the Transport Committee.
In his resignation letter, the MP detailed some of the reforms he had made during his tenure.
"I have no regrets Hon Majority Whip, sir. I hand back the position with humility but with my head high. I thank the party for giving me an opportunity to serve and make a difference in the lives of Kenyans."
The MP was among recipients of the notice of discharge from various committees in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers had been issued seven days to respond before being discharged from the Transport, Public Works and Housing Committee.
"Pursuant to standing orders 176 (1) and 176 (2), you are hereby notified that the Jubilee Party which nominated you intends to discharge you from the Transport, Public Works and Housing Committee.
"You are hereby given seven days to respond before you are discharged from the said committee," reads the letter.
Some of the other MPs who had received the letters included; Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, Bomet MP Joyce Korir, Endebess MP Robert Pukose Satia and Aldai MP Cornelly Serem.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had previously warned Deputy President William Ruto's allies against engaging in the 2022 succession battles against him.
"If you don't respect me, why don't you at the very least just respect the office I occupy. You have branded me all sorts of names, but at least give honour to my office," Uhuru stated during a parliamentary group meeting held on June 2, at State House.
