The Deputy President noted that the drive is set to go on for about three months and is targeting around 5,000 youths in Nairobi.

"We have met here today with my friends and sponsors to contribute to the public. This is the first round. Next week will have another donation, the following week will also be the same and the others too.

"This program in the next two or three months is set to benefit 5,000 youths in Nairobi to help them in their hustles," he stated.

Ruto explained that the reason the donations have been approached on a weekly basis is due to the social distancing requirements set by the Ministry of Health.

The former Minister of Agriculture started the event by sensitising the youth in Dagoretti about the deadly virus, reminding them of the government's prevention and control protocols.

He commended the government's stimulus program that has been put in place by President Uhuru Kenyatta to cushion Kenyans from the impact of the pandemic.

Ruto also called upon well-wishers to donate to vulnerable members of the society in order to ensure Kenyans do not bear the brunt of Covid-19.

The Deputy President lauded the Kazi Mtaani program that was launched by the government to employ youths in major towns countrywide.

Speaking from parliament on Thursday while presenting the Sh3.2 trillion 2020/21 national budget, Treasury CS Ukur Yatani noted the money is meant to boost the Kazi Mtaani initiative.
