Kenya Records 36 Recoveries in 24 Hours as 104 Test Positive

On Saturday, June 20, Kenya recorded 104 new Coronavirus cases from 2,280 samples tested in the last 24 hours. 

During the daily Coronavirus (Covid-19) briefing at Afya House, Health CAS Rashid Aman announced that the country's new positive cases had risen to 4,478 and the number of samples tested to 136,361.

36 individuals were discharged over the same period, bringing the total recoveries to 1,586.

Unfortunately, two patients died, bringing the number of recorded fatalities to 121.

Of the new confirmed cases, 76 were male and 28 females while the youngest was a 1-year-old and the oldest 76 years.

Nairobi county is leading with 60 cases, Mombasa (33), Kilifi (5), Busia (3), Kajiado (2) and Taita Taveta (1). 

In sub-counties, the distribution is as follows; Kibra (19), Lang'ata (22), Westlands (11), Dagoretti North (2), Embakasi East (1), Embakasi South (1), Mathare (2), Starehe (3) and Kasarani (1).

Mombasa has 22 cases of which Mvita accounted for 8, Kisauni (5), Changamwe (13), Likoni (2), Jomvu (4) and Nyali (1). The case in Kilifi was from Rabai.

Busia County cases were traced to Matayos (2) and Teso South (1) while cases in Kajiado are from Loitokitok (2).

CAS Aman noted the importance of mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic adding that the government had introduced interventions for affected Kenyans.

"There is stigma associated with the virus for patients, those recovered and frontline health workers. The government is offering 24-hour hotline 1199  and 719 for anyone who may need counselling on the issues,"  he stated.
