Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi was on Saturday, June 20, forced to cut short his speech at the burial of Luanda MP Chris Omulele's mother Sofia Monyo.

Rowdy youth heckled the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator as he was giving his speech at the ceremony.

The chaos commenced when the MP told off a section of Luhya leaders led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula for linking Raila Odinga to wrangles within the Luhya community.

Angry youth threatened to attack him forcing Atandi, who was representing Raila at the occasion, to stop his address. The MP was escorted out of the burial by police.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi voiced his displeasure at how the MP was treated during the funeral.

"Whoever organised goons to attack MP Atandi of Alego Usonga at the funeral in Luanda, your days are numbered. If soft power makes no sense to you, hope hard power will," he stated.

The MP took to social media to respond to reports that he was beaten up by the goons and maintained that ODM was the party of choice in the Western region.

"Seen social media reports that I was beaten up and injured at the burial of Hon Omulele's mother in Luanda by Ford Kenya supporters for telling off Senator Wetangula and Sugoi envelope recipients. Let it be known to all that Luanda is ODM zone and Ford Kenya cowards have no say," he posted on his Twitter account.

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Senator Wetangula have recently trained their guns on the ODM boss accusing him of fanning division in the Ford Kenya party.

Mudavadi in specific claimed that Odinga had conspired with COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli to remove Wetangúla from the summit of one of Kenya’s oldest parties.

During a rally that was disrupted by police on June 19, a section of leaders affirmed that Wetangula had the support of the region and they would not allow anyone to use them for their political gain.

"We maintain that Mulembe nation is firmly behind Wetangula and nobody will take us for granted again," Kimininin MP Chris Wamalwa stated.
