Protestors aggrieved by the sentencing of Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke on Friday, June 26, attacked his opponent Moses Nandalwe whom they accused of trying taking advantage of the predicament.

Nandalwe was on his way to Bungoma town to check on his ailing friend when he had an encounter with the protesters who left him with minor injuries and two damaged vehicles.

There has been a bitter rivalry between Waluke and Nandalwe who contested on an ODM ticket but lost the Sirisia Parliamentary seat in the 2017 elections.

The Politician further stated that those who had attacked him were hired goons and supporters of Waluke.

"They pelted stones at me and smashed the rear windscreen of my V8 and Sunroof of the Mercedes Benz," he stated.

Demonstrators took to the streets to protest the conviction of their area Member of Parliament who may serve a 67-year jail term should he fail to pay his fine.

The residents stated that they were not pleased with the ruling and went to the streets to burn tires and express their displeasure with the ruling that sent shock waves across the whole country.

Police officers were forced to lob teargas canisters and shoot in the air to disperse the residents.

"There was no proper justice in the determination of that case," one of the residents stated.

"The crimes took place a long time ago and the judge should have offered a lighter sentence," another resident claimed.
