Excited 20-Year-Old Girl Calls President Uhuru Kenyatta

A young lady was on Friday, July 17 afforded the rare chance to speak to President Uhuru Kenyatta on the phone. 

According to the video shared by NTV, the lady who identified herself as Ann Wanjiru was a beneficiary of the Kazi Mtaani initiative in Elburgon, Nakuru County. 

She praised the program, stating that it had helped many young people from the locality.

Wanjiru requested that the president extend the job which was supposed to last for 11 more days. 

Unfortunately, President Kenyatta explained that the program was designed that way to help as many young people as possible.

“We created the program so that you can work and get paid and after 11 days, the opportunity can be given to others and so on so that this money benefits all the young people who enroll,” he responded. 

Wanjiru wished she was speaking with the president through a video call and asked whether she could meet him in person. 

“I would like to see you live. There are a lot of things we need to talk about,” to which the head of state said he would think about. 

The lady passed the gratitude of the residents of Elburgon, explaining that his administration had helped them alot. 

He promised to visit the place sometime in the future to witness the progress himself. 

President Kenyatta has reiterated the importance of the Kazi Mtaani project and warned government officials against bangling it. 

On Thursday, July 1, he cautioned leaders against taking advantage of the National Hygiene Programme (Kazi Mtaani Initiative) to gain political mileage.

While addressing National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) at KICC, the head of state indicated that the project which had been allocated Ksh10 billion was personal to him.

"This is not a process of trying to get votes for any person - not an MP or any MCA. This is a process of protecting the most vulnerable people in our country during this particular period. I will follow this very closely," he stated.
