Baringo Senator Gideon Moi's closed-door meeting with a host of leaders mainly drawn from Western Kenya on Saturday, August 1, has sparked outrage from several quarters.
The meeting was attended by among others; Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, Council of Governors' chair and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa.
Also present in the gathering was National Assembly Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe who together with the team led the delegation from Western Kenya.
Ford Kenya on Sunday, in a statement, warned Wamalwa against purporting to represent the interests of the party in various platforms.
"As a party, we want to distance ourselves from him and to categorically state that CS Eugene Wamalwa does not have any legal or moral authority to speak or transact any business on behalf of Ford Kenya Party," read the statement.
This is after it emerged that Wamalwa stated that Luhya leaders had started consulting to have Ford-Kenya and KANU work together.
Another issue that emerged after the meeting was reports of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya endorsing Gideon Moi for the presidency in 2022.
The chairman of the Council of Governors came out to deny the reports on Sunday, August 2, as he revealed the purpose of the meeting when he met a delegation from West Pokot County.
"I also took the opportunity to dismiss fake news going rounds in social media claiming that I endorsed Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for the presidency in 2020 when we visited his home yesterday.
"Our meeting with Senator Moi was about supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta deliver on his vision for a united and developed country and at no point did we discuss endorsements," he noted.
The meeting also drew criticism from a section of Baringo leaders led by Mochongoi Ward MCA Kipruto Kimosop and his Tenges counterpart Silas Tochim.
The leaders claimed that Wamalwa spent more time in the Kabarak meeting with Gideon Moi rather than focusing on his main purpose of the tour which was to address the floods situation in the county.
