A police constable based in Kisauni was on Tuesday, August 19, arrested after he conned a women of her hard-earned cash.

DCI, in a statement, disclosed that police constable Edward Mwaniki Kabachia had been arrested after he promised a lady jobs for her two relatives but failed to deliver.

"Police Constable Edward Mwaniki Kabachia, a DCI detective based at Kisauni has been arrested following an incident where he obtained a substantial amount of money from a lady by falsely pretending that he was capable of securing her two relatives job vacancies in the Kenya Prisons," DCI wrote in a statement.

Mwaniki's arrest followed an inquiry by DCI Likoni where it was recommended that the officer should be charged with the offense of obtaining money under false pretense.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 19.

If found guilty of false pretense, Mwaniki is liable to imprisonment for three years.

According to Chapter 63 of the Penal Code: “Any person who by any false pretense, and with intent to defraud, obtains from any other person anything capable of being stolen, or induces any other person to deliver to any person anything capable of being stolen, is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for three years."

The incident came days after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested an imposter possessing a stamp bearing the 'Chief of Staff Interior' tag.

The investigative body disclosed that the suspect, Martin Kikwau Mutangili, had posed as a civil servant representing various ministries to rob unsuspecting Kenyans.

Mutangili was arrested at his house in Prissy Apartments within Syokimau in Machakos county.

"Responding to numerous complaints from the victims, the TOCU detectives launched a manhunt for the 39-year-old suspect, netting him after hours of rigorous search at house number 2 Block F of Prissy Apartments within Syokimau," read the statement in part.
