Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, on the night of Tuesday, August 11, arrested a notorious imposter possessing a stamp bearing the 'Chief of Staff Interior' tag.
In a statement, the directorate revealed that the suspect, Martin Kikwau Mutangili, had posed as a civil servant representing various ministries to rob unsuspecting Kenyans.
He was arrested after hours of an intense crackdown at his house in Prissy Apartments within Syokimau in Machakos county.
"Martin Kikwau Mutangili, a suspect of impersonation and fraud who has been defrauding vulnerable members of the public while posing as a civil servant working in various Government ministries was last night arrested by DCI Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) detectives in an operation at Syokimau, Machakos County.
"Responding to numerous complaints from the victims, the TOCU detectives launched a manhunt for the 39-year-old suspect, netting him after hours of rigorous search at house number 2 Block F of Prissy Apartments within Syokimau," read the statement in part.
The suspect was also found with various military equipment including a civilian's firearm certificate, a pistol holster, and several immigration temporary movement passes.
Others items were two stamp with the impressions; "Chief of Staff Interior", and "Received KDF", several police, court and MM Enterprise documents, Lease agreements, and delivery receipts.
The statement further indicated that the suspect often posed as a member of the disciplined forces or a National Intelligence Service officer.
"The suspect, who to some bluffs as a member of the disciplined forces or a National Intelligence Service officer is now in custody pending further police procedures and arraignment, with several victims having positively identified him," added the statement.
This comes barely two weeks after a man was arrested for allegedly impersonating Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho's Personal Assitant and defrauding the public.
The man was arrested in Voi, Taita-Taveta County after a number of complaints from residents who had lost thousands of shillings were raised.
He was accused of obtaining Ksh150,000 from a man, promising to process a firearm licence for him within five days.
