A Facebook user by the name Zakayo Zack Elias narrated an ordeal where he was clobbered by a driver and his conductor when he complained about them flaunting the COVID-19 rules that have been set by the government to combat the spread of the disease.
Elias narrated that he was on his way from Meru to Nairobi, when he confronted the conductor against adding more passengers to the Public Setvice Vehicle that was already full.
Angered by his protest, the driver and conductor joined forces and roughed him up to a point of tearing his shirt and pouring soapy water on his eyes.
“This journey was a living hell," he stated.
Elias indicated that the vehicle belongs to Mekina Sacco and was registered under KCD 285M.
Taking his experience to social media, Elias requested the public to help him get justice against the sacco.
In a follow up post, however, Elias disclosed that the culprits had been brought to book and thanked citizens who had supported him in his quest for justice.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the authorities, the sacco management and the vehicle owner for their cooperation to hold the culprits accountable of their actions. This is a good move and I appreciate.
"I hope that this is a good lesson to them and others with such behaviors," he concluded.
In order to curb the spread of the virus, the government put in place stringent measures to curb the spread of the virus.
The president, in his address to the nation in March, identified the public transport sector as one of the conduits in which the virus could spread, given the number of people using it on a daily basis.
The directives he then issued included public service vehicles (PSVs) should provide hand sanitizers to their customers, adopt cashless payment systems as well as ferry limited passengers to maintain the social distancing directive.
