The Thirdway Alliance Party National Executive Committee (NEC) on Wednesday, August 26, resolved to suspend party leader Ekuru Aukot resulting in mayhem. His ongoing child paternity case was listed as one of the reasons behind the decision.

Footage of the heated session at their Lavington office detailed the chaotic scenes as the officials engaged in a war of words.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an insider revealed that the suspension was hinged on three alleged offences as further detailed in a statement by the party as follows.

  1. Assault on Dr Angela Mwikali, the Deputy Party Leader using crude words which were later published by online bloggers.
  2. Financial impropriety, self-enrichment, non-accountability and lack of transparency
  3. Defying a court order in Children Case No.1591 of 2019, this violating Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

"Dr Ekuru Aukot has been suspended as the party leader indefinitely and shall not represent or transact any business on behalf of the party pending the determination of the matter by the disciplinary committee," a statement released by the party reads in part.

Aukot was further directed to appear before the party's disciplinary committee on a date that is yet to be established.

Thirdway Alliance has been plagued with a series of internal wrangles.

On February 20, Aukot was sued by a section of the party officials over the Punguza Mizigo initiative.

The three petitioners – Dr.Angela Mwikali Nyalita, Phelister Wakesho Wughangha and Hilda Agnes Nduta Gachahi – said Aukot’s actions were unconstitutional, unlawful and illegal.

The trio accused Aukot of launching a process to amend the Constitution through the ‘Punguza Mizigo Kenya’ Initiative without disclosing to any of the other party officials and without the approval of the party NEC.

They further claimed that Aukot has refused to account to them, the party and its members as well as the public on the source of funds being used to finance the initiative.
