Migori County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth on Saturday, September 5, alleged that goons from the ODM party had attacked him while in a hotel room.

Speaking to the press, the county speaker stated that his life was in danger following the encouter.

"I was attacked yesterday and in the presence of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and whoever was attacking my bodyguard is his brother.

“I am not sure why they attacked me. I think they thought I was with some MCAs at the hotel. My life is in danger," he stated.

Okoth added that he had not yet received the impeachment motion against Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

He claimed that MCAs were now living in fear over the pressure by the ODM party over the motion.

“Migori has been a very good county Assembly, now members are running everywhere, being hunted everywhere, and those are mature members,” he stated.

ODM had earlier revealed that 27 MCAs out of 40 had signed the impeachment motion as the party chairman John Mbadi raised the alarm over bribery attempts.

"We assure ODM MCAs who have signed the petition to remove Obado that ODM will stand with them fully against attempts by the governor to intimidate and blackmail them. What Obado is doing in Migori is simply to visit terror on the people and he has done it for far too long

“And he now thinks he can visit terror on the party leadership. I want to tell him, he is mistaken. He cannot visit terror on everybody. Obado is trying to divert and seek sympathy from the public. The very party he has been accused of stealing from,” he stated.

Mbadi added that they would forward names of those involved in bribery to the police for arrest.

The party intiaited the impeachment process following investigations by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) where Obado was found to have received Ksh 73,474,360 million through his designated proxies and employees of the county government.
