Malala revealed part of the discussions with Raila in the closed-door meeting as he promised the African Union special envoy of his loyalty.

"Pleased to have held discussions with the Rt Honourable Raila Odinga on the impasse facing the division of revenue bill in the Senate. We resolved to find a win-win formula favouring all the counties in order to keep the tranquillity of our country intact.

"I assured the former Prime Minister of my continued abidance to teamwork as we negotiate this issue alongside my colleagues in the Senate," he stated.

Malala has been a strong critic of the third generation county revenue allocation formula despite Kakamega County standing to gain.

The Kakamega Senator was arrested on Monday, August 17 alongside Steve Lelegwe (Samburu), Christopher Langat (Bomet) in what he claimed was state intimidation over their stand on the formula.

Raila also confirmed the meeting between him and Malala as he posted a photo after the discussions that focused on the revenue formula.

"Held discussions with Senator Cleophas Malala of Kakamega this afternoon focusing on the Revenue Sharing stalemate and BBI," read Raila's post.

On Sunday Raila questioned whether Malala was elected to represent the people of Kakamega after rejecting the revenue sharing formula.
