President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, October 4, made a last-minute decision to visit Cairo, Egypt, to meet his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
Uhuru was expected to jet back into the country on Sunday after his four-day trip to Paris, France, where he signed three bilateral agreements.
The President paid a courtesy call to Al-Sisi as confirmed by State House in a statement, with their meeting focused on security and Covid-19 response.
"On his way from France last evening, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a stopover in Egypt during which he paid his Egyptian counterpart President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi a courtesy call.
"In their meeting at Heliopolis Palace in Cairo, the two African Heads of State discussed a number of subjects of mutual interest between Kenya and Egypt among them regional peace and security, trade and Africa's response to Covid-19," read a statement from State House.
Uhuru was expected to convene a meeting on Monday, October 5 where he was to receive a comprehensive political brief from his lieutenants in the National Security Advisory Committee (NSAC).
The meeting was scheduled after Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju announced a plan to kick out Deputy President William Ruto from the party.
According to flight tracking websites, the President's jet, Fokker 70 ER is still in Cairo after landing on Sunday from Paris, France.
The deal signed between Uhuru and his France counterpart Emmanuel Macron involved a Public Private Partnership (PPP) for the dualling of the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit highway.
Others were agreements on the development of the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) commuter railway line and the 400KV Menengai-Rongai electricity transmission line.
