ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna on Friday evening, October 16, attracted wrath from a section of Kenyans after he defended Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who is accused of shooting Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve .

Evolve had written to court stating that his family had agreed to drop the case as he focusses on getting better.

Through his lawyer Kenneth Mumbo, the DJ stated that the pending case was negatively affecting his healing process.

The DJ's sentiments caused an uproar among some Kenyans who took to social media to state their disapproval.

"It wasn't DJ Evolve who took Babu to court, the state should ensure the criminal MP is jailed! DPP, we are watching," Mandela stated.

"I feel extremely sad about this but this is Kenyan. The politicians or the rich mess up the future of the youth but with a bit of money seek mandate again and the youth Cheer,"Gitahi weighed in.

Following the uproar, the ODM Secretary General condemned Kenyans wondering why they were so angered after Evolve withdrew the charges.

"The person who was actually hurt has spoken and said he doesn't wish to press charges. But the Twitter DJ Evolve manufactured by the outrage industrial complex will have none of it. Who shot you?" Sifuna posed.

It is this tweet that has since received hundreds of replies, with many disappointed by his sentiments.

"Basic criminal law fact relevant to DJ Evolve A criminal prosecution is not a dispute between an accused and the victim, it is a dispute between the state and the accused, because of the great public interest, the public has to ensure those who commit crimes are held to account." Waikwa Wanyoike commented.

"A very sad tweet. What type of leaders do we have? Who cursed us? What is this?" a netizen noted.

"My good friend, this tone deafness is embarrassing us all. Do the right thing," another told Sifuna.

In a previous interview in July 2020, Sifuna had stated that party would not hesitate to expel Babu if he was found guilty by the courts.

Sifuna asserted that the rule applied to all party members, with conviction required for a party member to be expelled based on charges brought against them.
