Update: Saturday, October 24: Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa will be detained for the weekend after she was unable to post bail on time for her release on Friday, October 23.

Juma secured her freedom on Ksh 4 million cash bail after being charged with murder.

Update: Friday, October 23: Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her bodyguard secured release on Ksh 4m cash bail each after spending four nights in police custody over murder charges.

Judge Njoki Mwangi made the ruling on Friday, October 23.

The prosecution had argued that she would interfere with the witnesses. The case will be mentioned at a later date.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is set to spend three nights in police custody after a ruling by a Mombasa Court on Monday, October 19.

Judge Njoki Mwangi ruled that Jumwa and his co-accused Geoffrey Okuto Otieno, would be remanded pending plea taking on Thursday, October 22 in a murder case.

"The two accused persons shall be remanded at Port Police Station pending psychiatric examination. The pre-bail assessment shall be undertaken on each of the accused.

"Accused to be escorted to Coast General on 21st October for psychiatric examination," Mwangi ruled.

The judge ruled that despite Jumwa being entitled to bail pending trial over alleged misappropriation of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) amounting to Ksh.19 million, the considerations were different.

The bail terms under which the MP had been released did not apply to the murder charges levelled against the legislator.

In October 2019, the outspoken lawmaker was arrested over a fatal shooting that occurred at the home of Reuben Katana - the current MCA for Ganda Ward, Kilifi County.

According to reports, Jumwa stormed Katana's home where a meeting was being held for ODM agents ahead of a by-election where Katana was the orange party's candidate.

The chaotic encounter left Katana's uncle, Gumbao Jola, dead after he was shot in unclear circumstances.

In her response to the incident, the Malindi MP pointed her finger at ODM Party claiming that it had played a role in the death of the agent.

This comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), on Wednesday October 14, approved murder charges against Jumwa.
