Deputy President William Ruto appeared to take a swipe at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the Mashujaa Day Celebrations.
During the Tuesday, October 20, event, Raila took to the podium urging Kenyans to get ready for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report noting that the country was ready to change directions.
This came after months of trumping up support for the document that seeks to alter the constitution with promises of introducing new policies on controversial matters such as the two-thirds gender rule.
"BBI reggae was launched here in Kisii, and we said that we must change direction.
"For 56 years we have followed one direction, we need to look at what else is there so that project Kenya can move forward," stated the former Prime Minister.
When the DP took the stage, he acknowledged Raila's desire to have the report but asked that the conversation be done inclusively.
"My friend the former Prime Minister has told us about the BBI reggae, but I guess we will have a robust national conversation that will bring everybody on board," stated Ruto in a rejoinder.
For the last couple of months, the two leaders have appeared to be on opposite sides of the proposed report.
Raila and his allies promised Kenyans that BBI would be an all-inclusive document that would seek to benefit women and the youth among other minority groups.
Ruto allies, with the introduction of the wheelbarrow movement, however, claim that the document sought to empower the rich at the expense of the poor.
During his Mashujaa Day speech, President Uhuru Kenyatta insisted that BBI was not seeking to increase individuals seats but rather seeking to enhance inclusivity.
