Commuters in Nairobi’s Eastlands area will now spend less time to travel to the CBD. this is after the Kenya Railways Service restored the rail service to the Central Business District.

Commuters in Nairobi have suffered sitting long hours in traffic jams to get to the city. The new Embakasi, Pipeline, and Donholm railway station is part of the corporation's plans to ease transport for the city’s residents.

The three stations are among the 10 new park-and-ride stations that are being upgraded by KRC. This is in a bid to increase its monthly commuters from the current 300,000 to more than 3 Million by 2022.

According to the new train schedule, travelers will have a maximum of two minutes to board or alight from the train.

The train will operate in the mornings and evenings, leaving Embakasi Village at 7.05 am for a 15-minute ride to Pipeline Railway Station.

It will then leave Pipeline for Donholm Railway Station, arriving at 7.28 AM and leave two minutes later for the Madaraka station, a trip that will take seven minutes.

A similar route will be repeated in the evening, with the train leaving the city centre at 6 PM and stopping at Madaraka at 6.15 pm for two minutes.

It will then leave for Donholm, where it arrives at 6:24 PM, and head to Pipeline, where it arrives at 6:32 PM. before ending its journey in Embakasi Village at exactly 6:49 PM.

The other stations still under construction include Kikuyu, Dandora, Mwiki, Githurai, Kahawa, Ruiru, and Athi River.

There are more than 1.5 million people who commute to the Nairobi CBD daily with 20,000 people currently using the rail service.

The Nairobi Metropolitan Service announced that later in October, commuters are set to start using the BRT buses to move across the country once they alight from the train.

KRC through this partnership intends to save commuters money and time while making traveling to the city more comfortable.

This is part of the broader commuter-oriented transport system.
