A businessman was shot dead by armed thugs while outside his residence at Eurostyle estate in Karapul sub-location, Siaya County.

Reports reaching our news desk on Thursday, October 29, indicated that George Meyo was in the company of his wife Syprose Miruka, when three armed men approached the car and shot dead the former Azuri employee.

The couple, who were in their vehicle, had just left their place of work and were waiting at the gate of their residence when the incident happened.

County Police Commander Francis Kooli confirmed the incident, adding that the criminals wore balaclavas to conceal their identities.

"He was shot at the back-left shoulder and the bullet exited through the right side of his chest," Kooli stated.

Kooli further stated that they have launched investigations into the matter to bring the culprits to book. At the same time, he asked residents in the area to be more vigilant.

The incident took place just a month after another Siaya businessman was shot in front of his wife and daughter, a few metres from his home in Lwala-Kawuor village.

The wife Beatrice Awuor, stated that a white Saloon car blocked their vehicle about 300 metres from their gate before the men disembarked from the car and shot her husband dead.

The robbers are said to have fire shots in the air before turning to the businessman and shooting him in the right side of his abdomen.

"Three men opened the car door and ransacked it making away with Sh7,000, a smartphone valued at Sh15,000, house keys, and the car keys. I was in the car with my daughter, but we were not harmed by the thugs apart from being harassed to give them money," Ms Awuor disclosed.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i  launched a cleanup process targeting illegal gun owners after murder incidences involving use of guns rose.

The CS promised to restructure the country's firearms licensing regime and urged illegal riffle holders to surrender their weapons.
