Officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) halted a mission in Garissa to help a civilian whose car had overturned along a highway.

In a statement released on Sunday, November 1, the government force disclosed that its team of officers who were on an mission could not pass another Kenyan in need.

"They stopped and successfully recovered the civilian vehicle," read part of the statement.

The photos showed soldiers operating a KDF machinery along the dusty road.

Many Kenyans praised KDF for the heroic act noting that it was a significant walk away from the ruthlessness associated with law enforcement.

"I am sure his insurance won't want anything to do with his carelessness, but as usual, you guys are stunning individuals. Salute to you," stated Rolex Oyugi.

"Kenya’s finest men and women in uniform. We appreciate your sacrifice and service," added Moses Kirori.

"Service discipline and self driven. God will be there always for you. Congratulations," shared another Twitter user.

In the recent months, law enforcement had been associated with police brutality especially since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country in March.

Reports by human groups including Amnesty International, Haki Africa, Kituo cha Sheria, and the International Justice Mission indicated that Dozens of people, including a 13-year-old boy, had been killed by police.

"There have been several instances of brutal, disproportionate and unnecessary use of force while enforcing the curfew order.

"Members of the public have been beaten, shot at, teargassed leading to serious injuries and deaths,” argued the groups.
