Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the roll out of a new curriculum for teachers ahead of Grade Five pupils return to school.
A report by Daily Nation on Monday, November 2, indicated that the new training, which is expected to last for 12 days, would equip teachers with Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) for Grade Five.
The training is expected to kick off on Monday, November 23, and close on Saturday, December 5.
TSC Director of Quality Assurance Reuben Nthamburi confirmed that the training would run concurrently with the current school calendar.
"This training will be carried out as the school terms progresses on the stipulated dates," he stated.
The training will be divided into two, with the first targeting trainers slated for November 23 and 28, and the second one tailored for tutors at the zonal level.
"The National Masters Trainers will train the Curriculum Support Officers and CBC Champions at the County Level and thereafter offer professional support to the CSOs and CBC champions in the Zonal teacher training and SNE training venues
"Use the same CBC teacher champions which we had in December 2019. Do not replace any of them without authority," continued Nthambiri.
This comes barely two days after Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, on Friday, October 30, advanced their talks over the mass reopening of schools.
Education CS George Magoha and Kagwe are said to be pushing forward with the back to school plan on the premise that students will lose a lot if they stay longer at home.
Officials from the Health Ministry gave a green light for the reopening of schools based on new data after cancelling an earlier reopening plan presented by the Education Ministry.
Health Acting Director-General Patrick Amoth stated that the new data indicated that children between the age of 10 and 19 years have the mildest form of Coronavirus, and are unlikely to spread it as was initially thought.
The Ministry is worried that the delayed mass reopening of schools will affect the transitioning of students especially for Grade 5 and Form 1 students under the CBC.
