A suspect will be arraigned in Kibera Law Courts on Thursday, November 12, to face charges of giving false statements to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.

Richard Muriuki had initially reported a robbery with violence offense on Tuesday night, October 20, and this prompted police officers to carry out investigations.

He told the police officers that a van had hit his car at the Nyayo Stadium roundabout along Mombasa road, Nairobi County.

Three armed men, he claimed, stormed out of the vehicle and proceeded to rob him of his car.

The sleuths soon discovered that Muriuki's allegations were false upon tracing his lost car at Industrial Area Police Station which had been towed for obstruction.

It turns out that Muriuki had hit the Nissan on the fateful day of the alleged incident and instantly fled the scene. Days later, he then reported to the police claiming that his car was stolen.

"Detectives tracked down his Toyota Fielder to Industrial Area Police Station, where our Traffic counterparts had towed it for causing obstruction. It was not robbed from him as alleged and has been lying at the Police Station since the night of the incident," read part of the DCI statement.

The DCI admonished such actions and noted that the suspect would be charged on grounds of section 129 (a) of the penal code.

"Whoever gives to any person employed in the public service any information which he knows or believes to be false, intending thereby to cause, or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby cause, the person employed in the public service—is guilty of a misdemeanor and is liable to imprisonment for three years, " the law states.

24 hours prior, the DCI detectives also arrested a woman over Ksh10 million theft. The suspect Linda Nyamburi Odhiambo had allegedly solicited the funds by false pretense after promising to import cereals for the victims.
