A couple that had been reported missing for more than a week was on Tuesday, November 24, found dead in their home.

The elderly couple; man (72) and his wife (62) were discovered clutched together in bed in their house in Laini Centre off the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru stated that the cause of the death was yet to be established.

He noted that police had launched investigations into the matter.

Conflicting reports indicated that the two may have been murdered, with others suspecting that they could have succumbed to carbon monoxide fumes emitted from burning jiko.

“We can’t, however, rule out murder at this moment, and only a post-mortem examination will establish the real cause of death,” stated the officer.

The investigating officers did not immediately reveal the identities of the couple as the next of kin had not been informed of the incident.

Neighbours reported a foul smell emanating from the house that led to the discovery.

Moses Mwathi, a village elder, told reporters that the couple had been working in a quarry before they disappeared.

He added that the neighbours thought they had travelled to their rural home after they failed to see them around for a couple of days.

The neighbours grew suspicious following the foul smell coming from the house.

“On checking, they noticed that the house was locked from inside and the bodies could be seen lying on the bed,” he stated.
