Boda boda riders caused drama along Thika Superhighway after they descended upon a motorist who had hit one of the riders.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver is said to have experienced a tyre burst, lost control of the vehicle and hit the rider outside the GSU headquarters at Allsops.

Other drivers who were using the road started hooting to fend off the boda boda operators who were clobbering the driver but the drama went on.

GSU officers who arrived at the scene helped sort out the mess and solve the traffic snarl-up that had been caused by the commotion.

Witnesses faulted boda boda riders who took the law into their own hands instead of trying to reach an amicable solution.

“The driver did not hit the motorcycle on purpose. Why are they beating him up yet it was a tyre burst that made him lose control,” one of the witnesses was heard shouting.

There has been increased pressure from the riders community which has been protesting about road safety following the rise in the number of motorcycle and bicycle accidents.

Deputy President William Ruto's wife Rachel on Saturday joined a community of cyclists to ride around Nairobi in honour of Kui Gitonga who was killed in a road accident while she was on her motorcycle.

Kui was knocked from behind by a speeding driver and later succumbed to her injuries.

"Today I cycled in honour of Kui Gitonga, a biker whose life was cut short in a motorcycle accident. During her free time, she was a volunteer road marshall for cycling groups, protecting and ensuring a safe route by directing cyclists

“We have to deliberately prioritize road safety. It starts with having legislation in place to guide our planning," Rachel Ruto tweeted.

She urged motorists to exercise great and extra caution on the road to avoid such accidents.
